The snap grid

peasthope
Here LibreCAD 1.0.2 is in Debian Wheezy.

[Edit > Current drawing preferences > units] is set to mm.  Regardless of the setting in [Edit > Current drawing preferences > grid] the snap grid is 10 mm.  No evidence of the problem in the youtube tutorials.  A bug in the Debian release?  Does anyone have a workaround?

An independent problem which is less critical but still very disadvantageous is that the grid marks are barely visible.  A switch to choose between one pixel and four pixels for each mark would be a significant improvement.

Thanks,            ... Peter E.

Does anyone else have LibreCAD in Debian Linux?  Verification of the problem in another Debian system might help.

The grid size is auto, determined by the zooming scale.

For example, grid is set to by a number 10, based on the current zooming. Setting units gives the number 10 units:

Setting units to mm, means the grid is currently by 10mm. When setting units to inch, it means the grid is currently by 10 inch.

Thanks for explaining. In other words, (grid interval) = (zooming scale) x (unit of measure)?  Geometry of the object being drawn is constrained by a characteristic of LibreCAD rather than by the requirement of the designer.  This is a temporary implementation during software development?

Several things:

1, we would like to support units better, for example, user can change units. Currently, if you draw a circle of diameter 10, with units mm and change units to inches later, you get a circle of diameter 10 inches. A undesired and nonintuitive behavior. It should show a circle of diameter 0.3937 inches instead.

2, more GUI control for grids. current you can specify "auto", or ".01", "0.1", "1", etc.

In essence this means that the representation of the object will be invariant under a change of unit of measure.  Perfectly sensible.

So, where grid snap is unsatisfactory, the user should input an x,y or r<a location via the keyboard.
