VERY BASIC Help needed

I am attempting to draw a rectangle.
I select the rectangle tool and it requests 'specify first corner'
I click on a position which it marks and requests 'specify second corner'
I click on a position which it marks and requests 'specify first corner' again   AGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

It never gives me a rectangle!

I am clearly too stupid to use this software despite being an engineer with 40+ years experience including a lot of technical drawing (using paper).  I no longer have CAD technicians to work for me so I have to find a SIMPLE CAD package to use but so far I am unable to draw even the most basic things.  I have tried numerous tutorials but invariably they do not do what they claim to.  Most software is swimming in meaningless icons that make the learning curve many hundreds of hours.

I think this old dog it beyond new tricks.
