add rulers to drawing

how do you add rulers along the edge of the deawing

There is no automatic way for this. It's best to make your own drawing template with self-designed rulers at the drawing's borders for a certain paper size and scale.

Maybe I have misunderstood you. Do you mean something like this?:

You may draw such a ruler for a certain scale and unit, then save it and put it in a parts library.
