.dxf files deteriorate over time after saving???

2wheelguy
I am running a Windows 7 on a 16 gb RAM laprop, with 1 TB disc, and plenty of video horespower to drive visuals.

I am using LibreCAD Version: 2.1.3
Compiler: GNU GCC 4.9.1
Compiled on: Sep 23 2016
Qt Version: 5.4.1
Boost Version: 1.60.0
System: Windows 7

I have a recurring problem in that "saved" or "saved as" .dxf files seem to lose information, that should be part of the file, if the file is not opened for a month or two.  This has been a problem since I first began using LibreCAD.

I have attached a file exhibiting these problems Range_Hood_back-right-side.dxf.

I seem to lose lines, applied dimensions and inserted text elements.

You might say it drives me nuts.

It appears there may be an underlying bug in the base coding.

Can anyone fill me in, please.

I read the other posts on similar issues from years ago.  I am surprised the bug has not been eliminated.

Thanks for your help.

There is not much to be seen in your file. May be LordofBikes can read something in the interior of the file. I haven't experienced anything of the kind you describe. I suspect the fault is on the user's side, but hard to tell the reason.
Is your drive deteriorating?

Thanks for your reply.  The file I uploaded may not be a good example of the problem I am experiencing.

BTW, there are no disc drive problems.

To give you a better idea of what I experience, I have uploaded two additional files, one of the drawing dxf that was used at the time to produce the pdf of the the drawing which is also attached.

The PDF file:   side_view.pdf

and

The DXF file:   Rogers-return-air-box-side-view_v2.dxf

Maybe these will help.

Everything seems alright with the file. I have opened and resaved it with an altered name. After reopening everything still was there. I can leave it sitting for a month and try again, but I can't imagine it will make any difference.

Sorry, I have no clue what might be the reason for your troubles.

Are you telling me that when you open the dxf file, it displays text matching the text on lines 1, 4 and 5 from the top down in the pdf?

On my machine, line delineated empty boxes appear instead of text.

What would cause that?

The file opened looks exactly like the pdf.
Empty boxes instead of text? This indicates you have "Draft" mode activated. Then text is simplified to boxes to accelerate  screen rendering. Switch it off.
In your first posting you said also lines were missing. This led me on a wrong track.

Thank you for enlightening me.

I have carefully read through the User Manual many times and did not notice that comment on page 16.

I am going to reread the toolbars section again to see if any of the other dificulties I encounter may be related to settings.

I appreciate your time and apologize for my ignorance.

I'll try to do better in the future.

As you initially observed, "operator error."

Enjoy the weekend.
