trace a plan to make a template

Chuck Barnett

I scanned a drawing of a concert ukulele plan.  I want to digitize this to create a template using a CNC machine.  Can I do this using Librecad?  Can you point me in the general direction?

Thanks!

What format does the CNC need?

Look at https://dokuwiki.librecad.org/doku.php/tutorial:carport if you are thinking of scanning it and redrawing it. (I'd rotate it first so you can read the writing.)

Thanks for your response!

The CNC operates from a g-code file, a file with an extension of.ngc (if I remember correctly).

The program to create that code uses dxf or bmp files.

The link you posted didn't address my question but it gives great information.

Yes, it can be done in LibreCAD to create a dxf file.  Starting with a new drawing:
1. Create a new layer and import the image (File -> Import -> Insert image)
2. Create another layer and use 'Spline though points, arcs and lines to trace the image.

Turning the image layer off and on will allow you to view and tune the drawing.

Once you have it imported, you will need to adjust the scale of the drawing to get it to 1:1, similar to the idea in this tutorial: https://wiki.librecad.org/index.php?title=Measure_Areas

More information on using LibreCAD and the tools can be found in the User Manual.

This is a quick example using the image you provided:
